Depression

Some associate depression with being down, sad or unhappy but depression has little to do with these things. We can be sad, lonely, or disappointed without being depressed. Depression is better associated with hopelessness.  It might be a surprise to some, but depression is also better associated with feelings of frustration or anger than sadness. Depression is associated with having no solution, or seeing no way out of what feels like impossible circumstances.  If we are honest with ourselves when in a depressed mood, we might be able to find underlying rage or a desire to give up. Without hope we cannot live. We need hope just to be able to roll out of bed in the morning; it is hope that the day just might bring something worthwhile which gets us going. Depression is a hope killer.  Therapy is the process of finding the remnants of hope, cherishing hope, building on it and making it grow.
